Battery grade lithium carbonate market sees firm price though off-season coming

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 12 Jun 12 – According to sources, battery grade lithium carbonate price keeps firm at about RMB41.5-43/kg (USD6.57-6.80/kg) and some producers raise offers to around RMB45/kg (USD7.12/kg) for small quantities inquiries though lithium battery industry has entered into the traditional sluggish season.
A producer in Sichuan, whose output of battery grade lithium carbonate is 500tpm, reported to Asian Metal that most of their deals are made at around RMB43/kg (USD6.80/kg). “For small orders, the price is about RMB44/kg (USD6.96/kg),” said the source. Though lithium battery sector steps into the off season, consumers are in a hurry to build stock, thinking the price will keep going up, which enlarges the demand, so lithium carbonate of battery grade supply is tight.
The source disclosed that their orders are arranged until July because downstream buyers increase their buying volumes continuously, and he thinks that battery grade lithium carbonate price will continue to go up in the near future. At the same time, he reported that spondumene suppliers intend to lift prices too.
A consumer in North China, whose consumption of lithium carbonate of battery grade is 120tpm, confirms that the price is rising and the price is about RMB41.5/kg (USD6.57/kg).
