BEIJING (Asian Metal) 1 Mar 12 – Recently, Indonesia declared to stop bauxite export from May 7, 2012 and many Chinese bauxite consumers had received the notice
A bauxite mine owner from Indonesia reported that they exported around 150,000t of bauxite each month before. “The new policy is surprising and I do not know how to deal with it,” said the source . “Luckily, my old bauxite mine will be exhausted soon.”
According to the source, they have no plan to exploit new mines because of the surprising policy. “We are now busy with coal mine business,” said the source.
In addition, the source reported that bauxite price may rise a bit in the coming few months. “We now offer USD27-28/t FOB Indonesia for bauxite Al45-46% Si 13-15%,” said the source.
Another bauxite owner from Indonesia confirmed that they are trying to persuade Indonesia government to extend the policy to 2014. They had a short conference this Tuesday and talked about the policy with relevant officials from Indonesia, but did not get any successful result . “The bauxite export ban policy is related to many factors like employment,” said the source.
