Wansheng government and CNMIA cooperate to build a magnesium scale application demonstration base

Wansheng Government and CNMIA magnesium branch signed a strategic cooperation agreement to build a world magnesium scale application demonstration base at the 14th CNMIA annual meeting that was held in Wansheng district, Chongqing on 19th October.

According to a source from Economic and Information Commission, during the 12th Five-Year Plan and the period after it, Wansheng gorvenment will actively take the opportunity that Chongqing is building the national important modern manufacturing base, to promote the magnesium industry to be specialization, clusterization and globalization, to cultivate a magnesium industry cluster that is “cooperating in production, study and research”, “large, middle and small sized enterprises” complementing each other’s advantages, and upstream and downstream of the industries chain perfectly matching with each other, with constant research and wide application abilities.

The base will occupy about 10 square kilometers in overall plan, and will output RMB50 billion with an investment of RMB30 billion in 5-10years, basically building a magnesium industry technology park with Chinese characteristics, a national magnesium alloys industrialization base of high and new technology, and a world demonstration base of magnesium scale application. Specifically, it will be realized in three steps:

First step: to 2013, to achieve magnesium alloy comprehensive processing capacity of 50,000 tons per year; magnesium alloy 3C products, magnesium alloys used for automobile and motorcycle parts and magnesium alloy plate section seed project and its matching business to be structured and put into operation; the magnesium industry technology park finished construction area to reach 3 square kilometers.

Second step: to 2015, to achieve magnesium alloy comprehensive processing capacity of about 100,000 tons per year; to finish the overall construction of R&D and industrialization platform such as magnesium industrial design center, magnesium industry test center, magnesium museum and so on; key material products such as heat-resisting casting magnesium alloy, low cost extrusion section, high performance magnesium alloy extrusion section, large cross-section magnesium alloy hollow profile, wide magnesium alloy plate, and magnesium alloy thin strips, fine rolling magnesium alloy thin plate, magnesium alloy wheels of automobiles etc. and their comprehensive processing ability to be obviously improved; the magnesium industry technology park finished construction area to reach 5 square kilometers.

Third step: to 2020, to achieve magnesium alloy comprehensive processing capacity of 300,000 tons per year, including processing magnesium alloy plate, strip and section of about 110,000 tons, and processing magnesium alloy die castings of about 190,000 tons; magnesium alloy to be widely used in 3C parts, transportation, aerospace, and defense military, building materials etc.; the magnesium industry technology park to finish construction and basically complete the magnesium and magnesium alloy processing industry cluster that can output RMB50 billion per year.
