Chinese silicon metal price increased sharply in late July and August due to the decreasing operating rate following the power rationing
. In the first half of September, the silicon metal operating rate in South China kept low and the silicon metal price remained firm . In late September, the power rationing in South China alleviated a bit and some silicon metal smelters resumed production . The supply for silicon metal increased in the market, but demand did not see obvious improvement . Silicon metal smelters have to pay for the electricity bill late the month . Furthermore, the trading during the upcoming one-week long National Day holiday will be thin and some smelters intend to sell some materials for cash back before the holiday . Therefore, Chinese silicon metal price retreated a bit in late September . The silicon metal export market saw some orders for Q4 in late August and September, while the trading in the spot market was inactive because of weak demand from overseas market following the global economy uncertainty .
