BEIJING (Asian Metal) 5 Aug 11 – Silicon metal smelters resumed production gradually in June and supply in the spot market was sufficient, but the market demand was not strong, and silicon metal price dropped continuously from mid-June to the second half of July
. The silicon metal price dropped to the level which was close to the production cost of smelters in Hunan, Guizhou and Fujian around mid-July, where the power price was relatively high, so many smelters began to hold offers stable, but the market could still saw some lower concluded prices . Traders came back to the market to make some purchase around late July . More importantly, the power rationing in Hunan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Fujian began again late July and many smelters had to stop production . Although the demand for silicon metal kept low, the silicon metal market turned stable gradually and smelters began to raise offers in the last week of July following the decreasing operating, and some smelters even held back from selling materials .
