Fugu planning to be the largest magnesium production base in China

The Fugu County, Shaanxi province, strives for the realization of magnesium and magnesium alloy capacity of 400,000tpy, calcium carbide of 2 million tpy, ferrosilicon of 600,000tpy and carbon- lan of 1.3 million typ by the end of 12th Five-year Plan, according to the 12th Five-year Plan of National Economy and Social Development of Fugu County. Fugu will plan to be the largest magnesium production base in China with the realization of these goals.
The plan also puts forward that the county will continue to encourage and support the process of magnesium metal with coke-oven gas generated by carbon during the 12th Five-year Plan and to realize the efficient and cyclic utilization of the resources with the Jingfu Coalification Co., Ltd. and Xingmao Group as the business models of circular economy.
In order to realize the above plans, Fugu County will raise the crude coal output to over 0.1 billion tons with over 80% of machine mining of coal mine and 50% of process conversion rate. Meanwhile, the local government will strive for 8 million kilowatt of electric power installed capacity. At the same time, Fugu County will build up three industry chains of coal power, coal energy carrier and coal coking. They will also construct the “coal-electricity-aluminum” chain by using the abundant and high quality bauxite and electric energy resources and endeavor to start the work of 1 million tons of alumina and 500,000t of aluminum ingot, realizing the deep processing and comprehensive mating between alumina, aluminum ingot, aluminum products, aluminum piece and the overall aluminium industry.
It is reported that the Fugu County has realized the goal of 8,000,000tpy of carbon-lan, 205,000tpy of magnesium, 140,000tpy of ferrosilicon and 2,620,000 kilowatt of electric power installed capacity in 2010.
