Just like every other car manufacturer, GM too has invested in developing alternate fuels for future cars. Seeing the success and rising demand for electric vehicles these days, car manufacturers world over want to develop an electric vehicle.

Toyota has already launched Prius while Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt are almost ready to be launched. But, people still feel that something is missing in these cars.Asian Metal Copyright As of now only two other companies, BASF and LG Chem have been given such licences.Asian Metal Copyright As these cars are not only costly, they also have a range of only 100 kms on a single charge, people are probably not ready to invest in such a car today.

Reportedly, GM has received license from Argonne National Lab and US Energy Dept. in order to develop better quality lithium batteries.Asian Metal Copyright .Asian Metal Copyright These new batteries will have better efficiency than the ones that are currently available in the market.

As of now only two other companies, BASF and LG Chem have been given such licences. Both, BASF and LG Chem are setting up plants in Ohio and Holland respectively, which will develop NCM (Nickel-cobalt-manganese) batteries.
