On July 15, China's Ministry of Commerce, in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology, released an updated version of the Catalogue of Technologies Prohibited or Restricted from Export.
The update includes a newly added restricted technology category of battery cathode material production technologies, covering production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP), lithium manganese iron phosphate (LMFP), and phosphate-based cathode raw materials.
In addition, the category of non-ferrous metal metallurgy technologies was revised, with added controls on production of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide from spodumene, lithium metal and alloy processing, lithium extraction from brine, as well as updates to gallium extraction technology.
Restricted technologies require an export license and cannot be exported without approval. The adjustment aims to protect China's economic security and development interests.
