Yimen Copper produces first furnace of anode copper

On April 12, Yimen Copper Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Chinalco, completed hot-commissioning of its energy-saving and emission-reduction anode refining project, producing the first batch of anode copper. On April 15, an initial 120 tonnes of anode copper were delivered to Southwest Copper.
The project is designed to produce 150,000 tonnes of anode copper annually, with a total investment of 89.77 million yuan (12.28 million US dollars). Construction, which began in December 2024, includes the installation of two 180-ton anode furnaces and a 70t/h dual-disc casting system, along with upgraded flue gas treatment, thermal systems, and power supply facilities.
Once fully operational, the project will enable Yimen Copper to extend and strengthen its industrial chain. The company is transitioning from producing blister copper, its main product for the past 30 years, to higher-value anode copper, increasing its product added value. Copper production capacity will rise from 100,000tpa to 150,000tpa.
