China recycles over 400 million tonnes of recyclable resources in 2024

The China National Resources Recycling Association has released the 2025 Report on the Development of China's Renewable Resources Recycling Industry. According to the report, the scale of China's renewable resources recycling industry continued to expand in 2024, with total recovered volume reaching 401 million tonnes, an increase of 6.5% year-on-year. The total recovery value reached RMB1.33 trillion (USD182 billion).
In 2024, steel scrap remained the most recovered category, accounting for over 60% of the total volume. Thanks to the successful implementation of the "trade-in" policy for consumer goods, the recycling volumes of discarded electrical and electronic products as well as end-of-life vehicles saw significant growth.
The report highlights that, driven by supportive policies and technological innovation, China's recycling system is becoming increasingly well-developed. The industry is moving toward more standardized, large-scale, and intensive operations.
