Northern Rare Earth announces capacity swap plan for 5ktpa REO separation project

China Northern Rare Earth (Group) High-Tech Co., Ltd. has decided to utilize a 5,000tpa REO rare earth separation capacity quota for a new separation production line, which will be operated by Northern Jinlong (Baotou) Rare Earth Co., Ltd., a joint venture between China Northern Rare Earth (Group) High-Tech Co., Ltd. and Fujian Jinlong Rare Earth Co., Ltd.
The 5,000tpa capacity quota will come from Inner Mongolia Aerospace JinXia Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. and was initially transferred to Inner Mongolia Baotou Steel Hefa Rare Earth Co., Ltd.
Northern Rare Earth has formulated a capacity replacement plan, under which Aerospace Jinxia will withdraw its 5,000tpa REO rare earth separation capacity, which will be swapped for the new separation production line to be built by Northern Jinlong. There will be no net increase in overall production capacity.
The new production is scheduled to break ground in June 2025 and come on stream in December 2026.
