In Q4 2024, Guangyuan Hongchangsheng Aluminum Co., Ltd. was forced to curtail production by approximately 40% due to multiple challenges, including a global bauxite supply shortage, surging alumina prices, and high primary aluminum production costs. During this period, aluminum prices once dipped below RMB20,000/t (USD2,762/t), which also compelled the company to take measures to minimize losses.
On February 20, 2025, the company started to resume operation of 74 electrolytic cells. Production capacity is expected to recover to 90% by the end of March, significantly narrowing the capacity gap caused by the previous shutdown. This recovery will also ensure a stable and reliable supply of raw materials for downstream aluminum enterprises.
