China's lithium battery industry exceeds 1.2 trillion yuan

China's lithium battery industry maintained the growth momentum in 2024 with lithium battery production reaching 1,170 GWh, up by 24% YoY, and the industry's total output value surpassed the 1.2 trillion yuan (165 billion US dollars) mark, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
In 2024, China's production of cathode materials, anode materials, battery diaphragm and electrolyte reached 3.1 million tonnes, 2 million tonnes, 21 billion square meters and 1.3 million tonnes respectively, all rising by over 20% year on year.
The country's annual production of battery grade lithium carbonate increased by 45% YoY to 670,000 tonnes, and that of lithium hydroxide rose by 26% YoY to 360,000 tonnes in 2024, when the average price for battery grade lithium carbonate and battery grade lithium hydroxide (micro powder) was RMB90,000/t (USD12,350/t) and RMB87,000/t (USD11,939/t) respectively.
