China updates catalogue of encouraged industries in western region

China's National Development and Reform Commission has released the latest edition of Catalogue of Encouraged Industries in the Western Region, which will come into effect from January 1, 2025.
The 2025 edition added a number of encouraged industries, including R&D, production, deep-processing and application of aluminum, magnesium, titanium and other nonferrous metals materials, alloy materials, new energy industry related materials, as well as rare earth resources, metals and new materials.
The newly-added magnesium-related industries include R&D and production of lightweight alloy materials in Chongqing, high-performance magnesium alloys in Guizhou, special alloys for new energy industry, high-performance magnesium alloy in Shaanxi, magnesium-vanadium-titanium metal materials in Gansu, high-performance magnesium alloy in Qinghai, deep-processing of aluminum alloys and magnesium alloys in Ningxia, exploration, mining of magnesium minerals, product processing, and technology R&D and application in Xinjiang, as well as R&D and processing of high-performance magnesium materials in Guangxi.
