China unveils new regulations on imports of recycled copper and aluminum

China will permit imports of recycled copper and aluminum materials that meet specified standards starting November 15, 2024, in its efforts to promote the high-quality development of the metals recycling industry, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE).
The ministry clarified in a statement that recycled copper and aluminum materials meeting requirements will no longer be classified as solid waste and can be imported without restrictions.
The HTS code for recycled copper and aluminum materials meeting requirements include 7404000030, 7404000050, 7404000020, 7404000040, 7602000040, 7602000050, 7602000020, 7602000030 (for customs declaration reference only).
