    1.Market Highlights

    Magnesite: Though the supply still remains weak and miners still want to raise their prices, magnesia producers show firm refusals to higher prices due to their extremely thin margin. Therefore, magnesite prices keep stable this month.

    Fused magnesia: Market demand remains weak, but most producers keep their prices firm supported by firm production cost.

    Dead burned magnesia: Most producers keep the prices of 90%min and 95%min firm based on firm production cost and no heavy inventory pressure, but lowered the prices of 96.5%min and 97%min under increased inventory pressure.

    Caustic calcined magnesia: Despite the weak market demand, most producers hold their prices stable based on thin margin.

    Magnesium aluminate spinel: Supported by firm alumina prices, the prices of spinel remain unchanged, though market demand remains slow.

    2 Economy and Policy

    2.1 Liaoning grants second batch of magnesite production quota

    Liaoning has granted the second batch of magnesite production quota of 6.27 million tonnes in 2024, including 4.Asian Metal Copyright5%min and 97%min under increased inventory pressure.Asian Metal Copyright87 million tonnes for Anshan, 703,200 tonnes for Liaoyang, 545,550 tonnes for Yingkou, 90,000 tonnes for Dandong and 63,000 tonnes for Fushun.

    The total magnesite production quota set for this year is 16.75 million tonnes, which amounts to 80% of the total mining capacity of legal licenses approved by the province, including 50% for the first batch and 30% for the second batch.
