Jiujiang Yunwei begins production at 20ktpa lithium hydroxide project

On May 27, Jiujiang Yunwei Lithium Industry Co., Ltd. commenced phase one production at its lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate project located in Lianxi Industrial Park.
With a total investment of RMB2.5 billion (USD345 million), the project consists of two phases and, when fully operational, it would produce 50,000 tonnes of battery grade lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate annually. Phase one of the project, with a production capacity of 20,000tpa of battery grade lithium hydroxide, broke ground in late 2022 before put into operation in late May 2024.
The project is the only one of its kind that adopts lime causticizing process to produce battery grade lithium salts in China, with products including lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate up to technical standards used by Japanese and South Korean companies and mainly supplied to top cathode materials plants and battery manufacturers at home and abroad, including Volkswagen Group and CATL.
