200ktpa copper cathode project breaks ground in Shiyan

On April 28, construction kicked off for a high-purity copper cathode project with a production capacity of 200,000 tonnes per annum at Beicheng Industrial Park in Shiyan, China.
The project, with an investment of RMB1.8 billion (USD248 million) from Hubei Qiangxing New Material Technology Co., Ltd., has a planned land area of 550Mu (36.67 hectares) and will mainly consume copper concentrate to produce 100,000tpa of copper cathode. The project will also use copper scrap, anode residue and blister copper as the raw materials to produce 100,000tpa of copper cathode.
When fully operational, the project is expected to achieve an annual production value of RMB20 billion (USD2.76 billion), along with tax revenue of RMB1.2 billion (USD166 million), and would help create nearly 1,500 jobs.
