BEIJING (Asian Metal) 24 Apr 24 - As most downstream consumers remain inactive in sending inquiries, Chinese imported tantalum concentrate market sees lower prices in the past week. The current mainstream prices for tantalum concentrate 30%min decrease to USD78-80/lb Ta2O5 CIF China, down by USD1/lb Ta2O5 from early last week. As most suppliers plan to lower their prices to promote sales, insiders predict that the mainstream prices would decrease further in the coming week.
"We quote USD79/lb Ta2O5 CIF China for imported tantalum concentrate 30%min and consider USD78/lb Ta2O5 for orders no less than 10t at present, while we offered USD80/lb Ta2O5 and would accept USD79/lb Ta2O5 for the same quantity early last week", said a trader in Jiangxi, who refused an inquiry of 10t at about USD78/lb Ta2O5 from a regular client early last week and failed to received any inquiry since then. They called the client again and finally sold around 10t to the client at around USD78/lb Ta2O5 early this week. As most consumers remain cautious in placing orders, the trader plans to lower their price by around USD2/lb Ta2O5 next week and predicts that the mainstream prices would decrease by around USD2/lb Ta2O5 in the coming week.
With a regular monthly trading volume of 10t, the trader would sell around 10t in April, unchanged from March. They sold nearly 200t in 2023 and almost 40t so far in 2024. They hold around 20t of stocks at present, up by 10t from last month.
A consumer in Jiangxi notes that most regular suppliers quote USD80/lb Ta2O5 CIF China for imported tantalum concentrate 30%min and consider USD79/lb Ta2O5 for orders no less than 20t at the moment, while they would like to sell at around USD80/lb Ta2O5 and could accept no counteroffers early last week. "We would not consider prices higher than USD75/lb Ta2O5 CIF China now", said the consumer, who last bought about 20t at around USD80/lb Ta2O5 CIF China in early April and remained out of the market since then. As most suppliers compete for limited orders, the consumer predicts that the tantalum concentrate import market prices would decrease by around USD2/lb Ta2O5 in the following week.
With an annual consumption capacity of 1,000t, the consumer would consume about 40t in April, unchanged MoM. They consumed nearly 560t in 2023 and almost 160t so far in 2024. They hold around 50t of stocks now, the same as last month.
