BMI cuts calcined bauxite production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 29 Mar 24 - Bautek Minerals Industrials (BMI), a major calcined bauxite producer in Brazil, would produce around 1,500t in March, down from around 2,000t in February, a source from the company reported to Asian Metal.
"We would produce around 1,500t this month, less than close to 2,000t last month due to equipment maintenance," said the source, adding that they already finished the maintenance but do not plan to restart normal production for the weakened demand abroad.
Based on the production capacity of 60,000tpy, they produced close to 5,000t so far this year and around 26,000t in 2023, with little inventories now.
Current mainstream prices for calcined bauxite Al2O3 87%min keep at USD340-360/t FOB Brazil, stable from two weeks ago. The purchase demand from Europe remains weak now.
