BEIJING (Asian Metal) 15 Mar 24 – The current mainstream prices of chrome concentrate 40%min stand at Rand3,400-3,600/t (USD182-193/t) D/P in Johannesburg warehouse, stable from early last week. Despite the tight supply of chrome concentrate 40%min in South Africa, most buyers refuse higher prices due to thin profits. Therefore, insiders predict that the mainstream prices of South African chrome ore would keep stable in the coming week.
A producer in South Africa noted that they would like to sell chrome concentrate 40%min at Rand3,500/t (USD188/t) D/P in Johannesburg warehouse this week, stable from early last week. "We sold about 1,000t at Rand3,500/t (USD188/t) to a regular client this week and sold about the same quantity at Rand3,500/t (USD188/t) early last week", said the producer, who anticipated that the mainstream prices of South African chrome ore would keep stable in the coming week.
with an annual production capacity of 300,000t of chrome concentrate, the producer would produce about 25,000t in March, stable from last month. They hold no stocks at the moment.
"We quoted Rand3,600/t (USD193/t) D/P in Johannesburg warehouse for chrome concentrate 40%min this week due to tight supply of chrome concentrate, while we refused prices lower than Rand3,500/t (USD188/t) last week", a trader from South Africa disclosed. They failed to close a deal of 1,000t after quoting at Rand3,600/t (USD193/t) this week and predict to sign contract at Rand3,500/t (USD188/t) next week.
