Chrome ore prices in China move up

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 1 Mar 24 - Boosted by rising prices for South African chrome concentrate, this week Zimbabwean chrome concentrate suppliers in China raised their prices too. Current mainstream prices of Zimbabwean chrome concentrate 48%min stand at RMB63-64/dmtu (USD8.75-8.89/dmtu) D/P at Chinese ports, up by RMB1/dmtu (USD0.4/dmtu) from before the Spring Festival holiday. Though downstream clients face high cost pressure, insiders believe that prices of Zimbabwean chrome concentrate at Chinese ports would stay at the current level as most suppliers intend to keep their prices unchanged.
A trader from Jiangsu revealed that now they can accept RMB64/dmtu (USD8.89/dmtu) as the lowest for Zimbabwean chrome concentrate 48%min. This week he made no sales yet and last week sold over 2,000t at RMB64/dmtu (USD8.89/dmtu), while before the holiday he could sell at RMB63/dmtu (USD8.75/dmtu). "Boosted by rising prices for South African chrome ore, we raised our price accordingly," the source said, believing that prices of Zimbabwean chrome concentrate would remain unchanged in the coming week.
The trader has a typical monthly trade volume of around 2,000t of Zimbabwean chrome concentrate and holds nearly no stocks now.
A trader from Liaoning revealed that now they can sell chrome concentrate 51%min at no lower than RMB67/dmtu (USD9.31/dmtu). "Our price before the Spring Festival holiday was RMB66/dmtu (USD9.17/dmtu). When the holiday was over, we followed other suppliers to raise our price too. It seems that clients can accept our new price now," the source said. This week he made no sales yet and last week sold nearly 1,000t at RMB67/dmtu (USD9.31/dmtu).
