BEIJING (Asian Metal) 3 Sep 07 – Manganese alloys market is taking another turn as new contract signing period is about to open
According to a trader source, silicomanganese market is quiet and he claimed price is unchanged after he sold small quantities last week around EURO1, 150/t delivered to customer with payment terms for 65/17 grade.
When told price is slacking he said it does not sounds reasonable because high carbon ferromanganese can be used as a substitute for SiMn and with the tight supply of high carbon, enquiries for SiMn is on the rise. He said high carbon ferromanganese is holding but did not conclude any deal, because they are not ready to offer material for sales at the moment.
According to another trader source, that concluded a deal Friday around EURO1, 050/t delivered to customer for 65/17 SiMn grade, said the price is not below EURO1,000/t as speculated. “I know some people are trying to talk SiMn price down but I feel it will go to EURO1,100/t because it is difficult to get material,” he speculates .
Meanwhile, high carbon ferromanganese market is tight and Chinese are out of the market at least for now in Europe, so no free material around. “Some traders are offering EURO1, 200/t but I think they are a bit greedy, I sold small quantities at EURO1, 100/t FCA Rotterdam for 75% Mn,” the source aired.
Meanwhile a market analyst revealed that SiMn price is weaker now due to excess material in the market, and it is possible to get material on the spot market around EURO950-1, 000/t; added that producers are still trying to hold on to the EURO1,100-1,150/t delivered to customer for 65/17 grade.
Meanwhile, due to CVRD plant accident in France that will keep the company out of production for minimum of two months, price of high carbon ferromanganese is expected to firm because they supply big share to European market. Although for now there is still not much activity, prices are being quoted around EURO1, 100-1,200/t delivered to customer for 75% Mn grade .
However, if CVRD switch their plant in Norway from SiMn to high carbon ferromanganese, then price of SiMn might pick up as supply would decrease.
. Unarguably, high carbon ferromanganese price is moving due to tight supply but silicomanganese price seems unclear as some claimed the price is down, some claimed it is still holding.According to a trader source, silicomanganese market is quiet and he claimed price is unchanged after he sold small quantities last week around EURO1, 150/t delivered to customer with payment terms for 65/17 grade.
