Jien Nickel Industry to resume nickel cathode production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 1 Feb 21 - Jilin Jien Nickel Industry Co., Ltd., a major nickel cathode 99.96%min producer in China, expects to resume production in mid-February with a monthly output of about 500t, a source from the company revealed to Asian Metal.
"We have finished the annual equipment maintenance, planning to resume nickel cathode production in mid-February," the source stated, adding that they will, after resuming produciton, keep their nickel cathode 99.96%min output stand stable at the level of that before the production halt. The company holds no stocks at the moment due to the about three-month production halt for equipment maintenance.
The company usually purchases nickel ore to produce nickel cathode 99.96%min with an annual production capacity of 8,500t. It totally produced about 3,500t of nickel cathode 99.96%min in 2020 and about 5,000t in 2019, but started stopping production in November 2020. It expects to produce about 250t of nickel cathode 99.96%min in February 2021, but holds no stocks at the moment.
Mainstream prices of nickel cathode 99.96%min stood at RMB136,000-136,500/t (USD21,167-21,245/t) EXW D/P in the Chinese market last Friday, steady from last Thursday. As the current market sees limited deals affected by the approaching of the Spring Festival, the source predicts that nickel cathode prices would remain stable in China in the coming week.
