1. Market Highlights
Prices for section steel rose obviously in major Chinese domestic markets during the month boosted by significant price increase of steel billet. However, the market performance showed no signs of improving. On the one hand, the downstream demand continued to be insufficient influenced by continuous rains, while on the other hand, end users were cautious about placing orders and only purchased according to urgent needs in small quantities, for fear of a price decline. Supported by low stockpiles, traders were not burdened with any sales pressures and they were eager to raise prices to transfer cost pressures. Considering the downstream demand is likely to get stronger in September, the traditional peak season, insiders think the price for section steel is likely to go up further by then.
