BEIJING (Asian Metal) 9 Apr 14 - As some bismuth ingot plants in Hunan stopped production in March and some exchanges in China kept increasing stocks of bismuth ingot recently, the supply for bismuth ingot on the spot market was tight and prices kept increasing.
A supplier in South China, with a regular output of around 30tpm of bismuth ingot, told Asian Metal that they sold 3t of bismuth ingot at RMB138,000/t (USD10.1/lb) in late last week, up further by RMB1,000/t (USD0.07/lb) against the price of RMB137,000/t (USD10.04/lb) in early last week. The source claimed that they quote the material at RMB138,000/t (USD10.1/lb) currently and intend to raise offers further late this week . The source added that they concluded some deals in small quantities of bismuth ingot at USD10 . 3-10.4/lb FOB China in the recent several days, which increased slightly compared with the prices of USD10 . 1-10.2/lb FOB China in mid-March.
Looking ahead, the source thinks that Chinese bismuth ingot prices will increase further in the near future due to the tightening supply on the spot market.
A trader in South China, with a regular trading volume of around 30tpm for bismuth ingot, reported that they purchased some bismuth ingot at RMB136,000-136,500/t (USD9.97-10/lb) last week, up by RMB1,000/t (USD0.07/lb) further against the prices of the previous week.
With a regular stock of around 20t in hand, the source noted that it is hard to purchase bismuth ingot in large quantities on the spot market as many bismuth ingot plants are holding back from selling materials on the expectation of potential increases in the near future .
