BEIJING (Asian Metal) 25 Mar 14 - Chinese bismuth ingot prices began to increase again last week as some plants stopped production due to environmental protection investigation
A supplier in China, with an output of around 30tpm for bismuth ingot, reported that they sold a small batch of bismuth ingot at RMB133,000/t (USD9.75/lb) last week, which increased sharply against the prices of RMB129,500/t (USD9.49/lb) in early March, and they now offer the material at RMB135,000/t (USD9.9/lb) . In the export market, the source claimed that due to the depreciation of RMB against US dollars, the export price did not increase much recently . They sealed a deal at USD10.2/lb FOB China last week, unchanged against that of the previous week.
Looking ahead, the source thinks that Chinese bismuth ingot prices will keep increasing in a short term as the supply tightens on the spot market and most suppliers are unwilling to sell materials.
A major bismuth ingot trader in China claimed that they purchased a few bismuth ingot at RMB134,000/t (USD9.82/lb) on the spot market last week, up sharply against their purchasing price of RMB129,000-130,000/t (USD9 . 46-9.53/lb) in early March, and it is unlikely to purchase the material at below RMB135,000/t (USD9.9/lb) now.
“Some of our suppliers stop production and cannot supply materials currently, and we have to purchase bismuth ingot from the spot market at the increasing price to fulfill current orders,” said the source .
