BEIJING (Asian Metal) 20 Mar 14 - As some bismuth ingot plants stopped production recently due to environmental protection investigation, the supply for bismuth ingot on the spot market became tight
A major bismuth ingot trader in China reported that they have some long-term orders to work on but some of their suppliers tell them this week that they cannot fulfill the orders in March as they stop production due to environmental protection investigation. The trader noted that they have to purchase the materials from the spot market, but few suppliers are willing to sell materials in large quantities now.
According to the trader, the offers for bismuth ingot decreased to RMB129,000-129,500/t (USD9.46-9.49/lb) in early March. Currently, many suppliers do not make offers and some offers increase to around RMB131,000-132,000/t (USD9 . 6-9.68/lb).
A trader in South China, with a regular trading volume of around 20tpm, reported that their prices for bismuth ingot decreased from RMB132,000-133,000/t (USD9.68-9.75/lb) in mid-February to RMB129,500-130,000/t (USD9 . 49-9.53/lb) in early March. Some suppliers begin to raise offers again this week and it is unlikely to purchase bismuth ingot at below RMB130,000/t (USD9.53/lb) now . They stop making offers this week, with some stocks in hand.
