Chinese bismuth ingot prices retreat slightly

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 29 Oct 13 – Chinese bismuth ingot prices decreased slightly to RMB106,000-108,000/t (USD7.90-8.04/lb) in early September. With the increasing real demand and investment demand, the prices increased continuously from the second week of September until last week. The prices for bismuth ingot reached RMB116,500-118,500/t (USD8.68-8.83/lb) last week. However, as the real demand sees no obvious improvement and more suppliers are active in selling materials, the bismuth ingot prices begin to retreat slightly this week to RMB116,000-118,000/t (USD8.64-8.79/lb).
A bismuth supplier in China, with an output of around 60tpm, told Asian Metal that their transaction prices for bismuth ingot reached RMB118,000-119,000/t (USD8.79-8.86/lb) early last week and quote the material at RMB118,000/t (USD8.79/lb) now. In the export market, the source claimed that the concluded prices reached RMB8.8-8.9/lb in the past days. They quoted it at USD9.0/lb recently, with no deals being concluded at the level.
The source noted that the real demand for bismuth ingot is not strong now. Moreover, suppliers begin to sell materials actively. Thus the bismuth ingot prices retreat slightly. Looking ahead, the source thinks that if the demand sees no increase, bismuth ingot prices are likely to slide down further in the near future.
A bismuth oxide producer, with a regular consumption of around 65tpm for bismuth ingot, claimed that the offers for bismuth ingot decreased slightly from RMB117,000/t (USD8.71/lb) last week to RMB116,000/t (USD8.64/lb) this week, and some suppliers quote it at RMB115,000/t (USD8.57/lb). The source reported that their last purchase for bismuth ingot was in mid-October at RMB114,500/t (USD8.53/lb) and now they are working on orders of bismuth oxide signed at RMB116,000-117,000/t (USD8.64-8.71/lb) at the time.
The source added that demand for bismuth oxide from electronics industry is weak and they sealed few new deals recently. Moreover, the bismuth ingot prices are on the decrease. They have a few stocks of bismuth ingot in hand now, but they are in no hurry in adding stocks.
