Chinese bismuth ingot prices retreat

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 5 Sep 13 – Chinese bismuth ingot prices dropped sharply from early April until early August. Bismuth ingot prices fell to RMB93,000-95,000/t (USD6.91-7.05/lb) at the beginning of August. The prices dropped to below most suppliers’ production cost and suppliers began to hold back from selling materials. Chinese bismuth ingot prices rebounded sharply since the second week of August and the prices reached RMB109,000-111,000/t (USD8.10-8.24/lb) in late August. The real demand sees no big improvement and the prices begin to retreat this week. It is reported that some offers for bismuth ingot are RMB108,000/t (USD8.02/lb) this week and a few suppliers begin to sell materials at RMB105,000-106,000/t (USD7.80-7.87/lb).
A bismuth ingot producer in China, with a regular output of around 70tpm for bismuth ingot, told Asian Metal that they have not sold bismuth ingot for around one month. They sold around 110t of bismuth ingot last week at RMB111,000/t (USD8.24/lb). The source claimed that they quote bismuth ingot at RMB108,000/t (USD8.02/lb) now.
The source noted that bismuth ingot prices lacked of momentum to move up further and they began to sell materials actively last week. “I heard that a supplier sold bismuth ingot at RMB105,000/t on Tuesday,” added the source.
A Chinese bismuth oxide producer, with a consumption of around 70tpm for bismuth ingot, claimed that the offers for bismuth ingot increased further to RMB110,000/t (USD8.17/lb) last week, while some suppliers begin to quote at RMB105,000-106,000/t (USD7.80-7.87/lb) this week.
The source noted that as the real demand from downstream industries did not improve obviously, it was hard for bismuth ingot prices to keep increasing. They are mainly dealing with some long-term orders for bismuth oxide now and seal few new deals of bismuth oxide in the spot market.
