Chinese bismuth prices continue to go up

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 27 Aug 13 – Chinese bismuth market continues to move up this week. The mainstream prices for bismuth ingot and bismuth oxide increase by around RMB1,000/t (USD0.07/lb) further to RMB106,000-108,000/t (USD7
A major bismuth supplier in China claimed that they only sold several tons of bismuth ingot at RMB105,000-106,000/t (USD7.80-7.87/lb) last week and hold offers at RMB110,000/t (USD8.17/lb) now . The source added that the export price rise lags behind the domestic price rise . They sealed some deals for bismuth ingot at USD7 . 8-7.9/lb last week, up further against the USD7.6/lb of the previous week. As for bismuth oxide, the source said that they raise offers to RMB112,000/t (USD8.32/lb) this week following the bismuth ingot price trend.
The source thinks that Chinese bismuth market is likely to see more deals into September and the prices still have room to increase. Thus, they seldom sold materials recently, waiting for the prices to go up further.
A bismuth oxide producer, with a regular consumption of around 20tpm for bismuth ingot, reported that Chinese bismuth ingot prices began to show signal of pick up in early August and they purchased large quantities of bismuth ingot at RMB96,000/t (USD7.13/lb) at the time. Then they added a few stocks at below RMB100,000/t (USD7.43/lb). The source claimed that the prices for bismuth ingot increased to over RMB100,000/t (USD7.43/lb) in mid-August and they did not add stocks. According to the source, it is even hard to purchase bismuth ingot at RMB106,000/t (USD7.87/lb) now and some offers are nearly RMB110,000/t (USD8.17/lb).
The source added that following the sharp bismuth ingot price rise, the bismuth oxide offers also go up to around RMB110,000/t (USD8.17/lb) this week.
