PT. Telaga Bintan Jaya (TBJ) has been exporting bauxite from 2009 to early January 2014 due to a regulation that prohibits the export of raw bauxite. In the past 2013, TBJ's bauxite mineral exports reached 4.5 millions tonnes each year. TBJ has two ports of loading in Singkep Island and another one is located at Tanjung Pinang city, Bintan Island.
TBJ currently is planning to build an alumina refinery. Based on the Indonesia regulation, each organization or company which has the mining permit can be permitted to export raw mineral within five years during the refinery construction progress. TBJ received a bauxite export quota with a volume of around 2.2 million tonnes in July, 2019.
